WEHC 2012We are ready to welcome close to 850 guests to Stellenbosch for the World Economic History Congress 2012! The weather has been unseasonably glorious lately and we hope the sun and fair temperatures will stay with us for the congress. For those who are still undecided as to whether or not they should attend, we have plenty to offer you: a stimulating scientific programme in a stunning venue, some very unusual social events, and unrivalled opportunities for networking, not only with your established colleagues but with other economic historians from around the world. We also offer a stunning selection of pre- and post-congress tours and day tours, and the opportunity to get to know one of the most beautiful regions in the world. ARE YOU A PRESENTER OR A SESSION ORGANISER? Please register right away! Your registration is required so the Programme Secretariat can finalise the programme for publication. Everyone involved in any kind of session, including plenary, concurrent, and poster presenters, must register for the congress. If for some reason you are no longer able to participate in your session, please notify the Programme Secretariat right away. We encourage all session organisers and presenters to communicate with one another over the next three weeks so that you can fine tune your presentations and make them sharp, relevant and inspirational. BOOK LAUNCH - TUESDAY, 11 JULYWEHC 2012 is pleased to host the launch of three books that we believe will be of interest to our delegates. Authors will introduce their books and will be accompanied by a discussant who will lead a constructive discussion with the audience.
Helen Paul will discuss her book The South Sea Bubble: an economic history of its origins and consequences with D’Maris Coffman; Leigh A Gardner will discuss her book Taxing Colonial Africa: The Political Economy of British Imperialism with Gareth Austin; and James A Robinson will discuss his book, co-authored by Daron Acemoglu, Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity and Poverty with Steve Broadberry. TRANSPORT All delegates and their accompany partners are responsible for making their own transport arrangements (including airport transfers), and the cost will be for their own account. Please click here for information on transfer providers. Alternatively, arrangements can be made directly at your place of accommodation, but this may be more expensive. It is strongly recommended that delegates pre-arrange their airport transfers prior to their arrival in Cape Town to guarantee availability.
